Fatiha means opener. Suratul Fatiha is the gateway to the whole Quran. This surah holds a unique and revered position in the Quran and is recited in every rakat of Salah. In this article, we will explore the benefit of Suratul Fatiha from the Hadith of the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).
The greatest surah in the Quran
Companion Abu Sayed Ibnul Mu’alla (Radiallahu Anhu) said, one day I was praying in the mosque, the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said to me:
لَأُعَلِّمَنَّكَ سُورَةً هِيَ أَعْظَمُ السُّوَرِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ
“Before you leave the mosque, I will teach you a surah which is the greatest surah of the Qur’an. Then he said, It is Alhamdu Lillah Rabbil Alameen (i.e. Surah Fatiha)”. Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 4474
All the past sins will be forgiven
Another great benefit of Suratul Fatiha is mentioned in the hadith below.
Companion Abu Huraira narrated, the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:
When the imam says غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلا الضَّالِّينَ (Fatiha: 7) then you say: Aameen. (Because the angels then also say Aameen). One whose Aameen coincides with the Aameen of the angels will have their past sins forgiven. Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 782, 6402
Suratul Fatiha is more than just a Surah to recite during prayers. It is a gateway to divine mercy, a plea for guidance, and a means to seek forgiveness from Allah. Its benefits, as described in the Hadith, go beyond mere recitation, offering spiritual rewards, protection, and an opportunity for sins to be forgiven
