Reciting specific dua after salat can help us seek forgiveness, guidance, and blessings. The prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us a lot of duas to recite after salat, we will explore the most important ones in this article.
1. Allāhu Akbar
Allah is the greatest.
Narrated Ibn Abbas: I used to recognize the completion of the prayer of the Prophet ﷺ by hearing Takbir. (Sahih al-Bukhari 842)
2. Astaghfirullāhalladh. Astaghfirullāhalladh. Astaghfirullāhalladh.
I ask for forgiveness from Allah. (3 times)
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to finish his prayer, he used to beg forgiveness three times. (Sahih Muslim 591)
3. Allāhumma antas salām, wa minkas salām, tabārakta yā dhal-jalāli wal-ikrām
O Allah! Thou art Peace, and peace comes from Thee; Blessed art Thou, O Possessor of Glory and Honour.
The prophet ﷺ used to say this dua after salat.
(Sahih Muslim 591)
4. Lā ilaha illallāhu wahdahū lā sharīka lahū, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, wa huwa ‘alā kulli shai in qadīr. Allāhumma lā māni’a limā a’taita, wa lā mu’tia lima mana’ta, wa lā yanfa’u dhal jaddi minkal jadd.
There is no god but Allah. He is alone, Who has no partner. To Him belongs the sovereignty and to Him praise is due and He is Potent over every. thing. O Allah! no one can withhold what Thou givest, or give what Thou withholdest, and the riches cannot avail a wealthy person with Thee.
The prophet ﷺ used to say this dua after salat.
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6330)
5. Ayatul Kursi
Ayatul Kursi is a very significant ayat of the Holy Quran, Surah Al-Baqara (2:255):
Allaahu Laa Ilaaha Illaa Hual Haiyul Qayuum, Laa Ta-khuzuhuu Sinatun Wa Laa Nawwm, Lahuu Maa Fis Samawaati Wa Maa Fil Ard, Man Zallazii Yashfa’u ‘Indahuu Illaa Bi-iznih, Ya’lamu Maa Baina Aidiihim Wa Maa Khalfahum, Wa Laa Yuhiituuna Bishai-im Min ‘Ilmihii Illaa Bimaa Shaa, Wasi’a Kursiyyuhus Samawaati Wal Ard, Wa Laa Ya-uuduhuu Hifzuhumaa, Wa Hual ‘Aliyyul ‘Aziim.
Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
The Messenger of Allah said: He who recites Ayatul Kursi after every obligatory prayer will have no obstacle to Paradise except death. (Amalul Yawmi wal Lailah by Nasa’i 100)

6. Subhānallāh, Alhamdulillāh, Allāhu Akbar
33 times: Subhānallāh (Glory be to Allah)
33 times: Alhamdulillāh (Praise be to Allah)
34 times: Allāhu Akbar (Allah is most Great)
Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said: There are certain ejaculations, the repeaters of which or the performers of which after every prescribed prayer will never be caused disappointment: Subhānallāh thirty-three times. Alhamdulillāh thirty-three times, and Allāhu Akbar thirty-four times. (Sahih Muslim 596)
These are the most significant dua after salat that the prophet used to recite or instructed us to recite. You can ask any need from Allah after salat, because dua after obligatory prayers is most likely to be accepted.
Abu Umamah narrated: “It was said: O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is most likely to be listened to? He said: During the last part of the night, and at the end of the obligatory prayers.” (Tirmidhi 3499)
The dua after Salat serves as a powerful reminder that our relationship with Allah continues beyond the prayer itself. By regularly incorporating these duas into our post-prayer routine, we not only seek forgiveness and blessings but also strengthen our spiritual discipline.
